Transocean Secures Aussie Job for Deepwater Millennium Drillship

Transocean, a Switzerland-based offshore drilling contractor, has revealed it has secured a two-year drilling contract for one of its drillships.

The drillship, known as the Deepwater Millennium, has been hired by an undisclosed client to operate in Australian waters, at a dayrate of $605,000. According to Transocean, an estimated contract backlog is $442 million. The contract is expected to start in February 2014.

The drillship is currently in Mozambique, working for Anadarko at a dayrate of $545,000.

The Deepwater Millennium is a Samsung/Reading & Bates designed, dynamically positioned drillship capable of drilling in water depths up to 2 468 metres (upgradable to 3 048 meters) and to depths of 10 000 meters below the sea surface.
