Transocean Secures $2.5 Bln in Drilling Contracts

Transocean, one of the world’s largest offshore drilling contractors by fleet size, has revealed it has secured new drilling contracts worth approximately $2.5 billion.

The company, in its latest fleet status report, announced that it has, since July 17, 2013, received drilling contracts for five of its rigs.

Dayrates for all the rigs involved have increased. Out of the five contracts awarded the most notable were those for Discoverer Inspiration and Discoverer Clear Leader, awarded by Chevron.

The Discoverer Inspiration drillship will, under the new agreement, stay with Chevron in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico until April, 2020, bringing Transocean a $1.1 billion estimated backlog.

As for the Discoverer Clear Leader, the drillship will remain under contract with the California-based oil company until August, 2018, contributing an $861 million estimated backlog to the Swiss-based drilling contractor.

The three other contracts mentioned include GSF Galaxy I, Transocean Barents and Henry Goodrich rigs. The total value of these three contracts is estimated at approximately $592 million.

Furthermore, Transocean added that it has sold the deepwater floater, Transocean Richardson, which was previously stacked, without naming the client nor the price agreed.
