‘Ocean Swift’ goes to scrapyard after 58 years of service

Atlantic Offshore, a Norway-based provider of offshore support vessels, is going to scrap a 58-years old Emergency Response and Rescue Vessel (ERRV).

The ‘Ocean Swift’ ERRV is the company’s oldest vessel, and according to Atlantic Offshore’s press release, it has been sold for recycling.

Due to its contractual commitments with Teekay, Atlantic Offshore will replace the vessel with a younger, 1982-built ‘Ocean Swan’.

Teekay, a provider of marine services and solutions to the offshore industry, had awarded the Ocean Swift a three year contract at the Banff field, in the North Sea, offshore Aberdeen, UK, in November 2013.

As for the replacement, the Ocean Swan is a deep sea supply vessel, built in 1981. Its length is 52 meters, with gross tonnage of 488 tons. It can accommodate 23 crew. For comparison, the Ocean Swift is 58 long with gross tonnage of 579 tons.
