Kvaerner delivers support structure for Repsol’s Yme project

Norwegian engineering and construction services company Kvaerner has built and delivered a permanent caisson support structure for the Repsol-operated Yme New Development project located offshore Norway. 

Kvaerner said through its social media channels on Wednesday that its Verdal yard completed and delivered the caisson support structure to Repsol on June 5, 2019.

After that, the structure was taken offshore using the Seaway Strashnov crane vessel. Five days later, the installation of the support structure was completed, according to Kvaerner.

Kvaerner’s scope of work under the contract with Repsol – awarded in November 2017 –  included procurement of materials and construction of the Yme support structure which is 38 meters tall and weighs 1,300 tonnes.

Under the contract, the structure was supposed to be delivered a year earlier, in June 2018.

When it comes to the Yme New Development project, Repsol submitted a revised plan for development and operation to the Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy back in December 2017. The plan was approved in March 2018.

The revised PDO is based on re-use of existing facilities that were installed on the field during the development in 2007 to the extent possible, a new wellhead module on top of the existing caisson and the lease of a mobile offshore drilling and production unit.

Maersk Drilling’s jack-up Maersk Inspirer was awarded a contract, which covers drilling and production on the Yme New Development, with an estimated duration of five years and options for up to an additional five years.

In order to perform this contract, the rig’s production module needed modification work and this job was entrusted to Aker Solutions. The rig arrived at Aker Solutions’ Egersund yard in Norway in September 2018. The work scope covers engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning services. The rig is expected to start operations on the Yme field as early as 4th quarter of 2019.
