GL Certifies CPNL's Diverless Spreader Beam

CPNL Engineering GmbH, engineer and supplier of alternative cable protection equipment, received the design certification of Germanischer Lloyd for its diverless spreader beam, to be used for the Baltic cable joint this winter period.

The design of the spreader bar for lifting of bending restricted cables is considered in line with Germanischer Lloyd rules for classification and construction for offshore technology. It is the first certificate CPNL Engineering received in its career. The spreader beam will be used with a working load limit of 33 tons together with CPNLs articulated pipe 300-333, which was recently tested in a three-point-bending test with a result of 489 kN.

The spreader beam is a diverless concept with a compressed air solution to release the joint on the seabed. It is easy to maintain, as the components can be replaced onsite. Next week CPNL Engineering will test the spreader beam together with cable joint and pipes before release offshore.
