ESS Extends Product Line for Oceanographic Use

Engineered Syntactic Systems (ESS), a global supplier of foam buoyancy solutions, announced plans to extend its line of high performance syntactic products to support more traditional oceanographic implementations.

The addition of modular product options enables ESS to supply more customers with great performance in a wider range of densities.

Recently ESS was chosen by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute (WHOI), to supply new syntactic foam for their HOV “Alvin” Sub upgrade program. Alvin is a 3-person research submarine that, since its launch in 1964, has allowed more than 2,500 explorers to visit the sea floor. With safety, reliability and depth performance being critical considerations, ESS’ quality and reputation set them apart from the competition.

In addition to its custom and off-the-shelf syntactic foams, ESS offers specially formulated void filler “kits” which have been used in applications such as submarines, by naval shipyards across the US.
