SPSL have been nominated for the UKTI sponsored ‘New to Exporting’ Award, the winner of which will be announced at the Subsea Business Awards, which are held during the event. The company will exhibit alongside fellow award nominees in the UKTI supported ‘New To Exporting’ zone.

The company, based at the OrbisEnergy innovation centre, has developed an innovative and patented solution to remediate and eliminate scour around offshore structures and over cables, which is recognised as a significant problem across the offshore and subsea industries.

The mats consist of a matrix of end-of-life vehicle tyres which stabilise the seabed to stop scour. Scour is caused by the flow of water speeding up around an object, causing a hole to form in the seabed around the object’s base, which gets progressively deeper if left unchecked.

Last year the company successfully completed an offshore demonstration of their innovative solution on E.On’s Scroby Sands Wind Farm off the Norfolk coast. The Scour Prevention Mats are now commercially available to the global offshore market.

Product Engineer Katie Musgrave said: “The Subsea Expo is a great opportunity for us to present our scour prevention product to the sector and explore new and exciting opportunities to export to the global subsea market.”
