Lithuanian LNG terminal operator Klaipedos Nafta has signed a memorandum of understanding with Kongsberg Maritime to cooperate in the field of liquefied natural gas terminals.

The two companies have agreed to cooperate in the fields of FSRU operations, LNG terminal technologies and systems, FSRU simulation models and scenarios  that include maintenance operations and cost optimization, according to Klaipedos Nafta’s statement.

In addition, the cooperation extends to simulators as the design and planning tools, small scale LNG bunkering operations and international LNG terminal projects.

Klaipedos Nafta notes that the systems developed by Kongsberg, a company owned by Kongsberg Gruppen, control the regasification and loading processes at the FSRU Independence, that is serving as Lithuania’s LNG import terminal.

The Lithuanian terminal operator is expanding its infrastructure and currently building an LNG reloading station. It is expecting the facility to begin operations next year, providing LNG reload to road trucks/trailers and liquefied natural gas bunkering for LNG-fueled vessels.
