Japan: May LNG Imports Rise 16.8 Percent

Japan’s LNG imports reached 7.06 million tonnes in May, a rise of 16.8 percent compared to a year earlier, according to data released today by the finance ministry.

Japan, the world’s largest LNG importer, imported 6.906 million mt of LNG in April, up 14.9 percent from a year before.

The country’s monthly LNG imports have been rising steadily year on year, due to the devastating earthquake and tsunami in March 2011.
