Norway: Statoil Resumes Production at Hammerfest LNG

Statoil of Norway said it is restarting operations at its Hammerfest LNG export terminal after the terminal was shut since May 28 due to a short circuit in the electrical unit of one of the cooling processors.

“Repair work and tests completed successfully. Compressors running and start-up progressing according to normal procedures,” Reuters cited Oeivind Nilsen, production vice-president for the LNG terminal as saying.

Snøhvit, which is the first petroleum development in the Barents Sea, is without any installations on the surface of the sea. Large volumes of natural gas are piped ashore and then chilled at Hammerfest LNG on Melkøya, the world’s most northerly, and Europe’s first LNG export facility.
