Australian offshore production license paving the way for first gas in 2028

Amplitude Energy (formerly Cooper Energy), an Australian gas production company focused on supplying the Southeast domestic gas market, has obtained a production license, which encompasses an undeveloped gas discovery in the Otway Basin off the coast of Victoria, Australia.

Amplitude Energy has received a production licence, VIC/L37, which covers the Annie field that was first discovered in 2019. Thanks to this, the firm can move forward with field development activities, with the first gas planned for 2028.

“Timely approvals and regulatory certainty for oil & gas projects remain critical given the length of investment cycle required. All gas produced from Annie is expected to be supplied into the east coast domestic market for Australian consumers,” emphasized the company.

The Australian player holds an extensive portfolio of exploration and development prospects in the Otway and Gippsland basins, including undeveloped discovered resources such as the Annie and Manta gas fields, in proximity to its existing infrastructure.

The Otway offshore gas fields and facilities are located about 30 kilometers off the coast of Port Campbell in water depths of about 60-70 meters. Gas production started in 2006 from the Casino field with subsequent stages integrating additional fields into the Casino, Henry, Netherby (CHN) pipeline to supply the domestic market.

The Annie production license comes months after Amplitude reported preliminary drilling and logging data from the Elanora-1 exploration well, with no elevated gas readings in the primary target Waarre A reservoir.
