AEP Praises BOEM for Archaeological Sites Study

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) was recognized by the Association of Environmental Professionals (AEP) for its study report, Inventory and Analysis of Coastal and Submerged Archaeological Site Occurrence on the Pacific Outer Continental Shelf.

The report earned AEP’s Outstanding Environmental Resource Document Award. This is the latest in a series of reports from BOEM-funded analyses that seek to identify potentially significant archaeological and cultural resources on the Pacific Outer Continental Shelf. The report was prepared for BOEM by ICF International, SEARCH, Inc., and Davis Geoarchaeological Research.

BOEM Pacific Region marine archaeologist David Ball accepted the environmental award from organization officials during an award ceremony at the 2015 AEP Conference held March 22-25, 2015 in Santa Barbara, California.

The report provides baseline information on archaeological sites, historic and traditional cultural properties, and potential culturally sensitive submerged landforms from the U.S./Mexican border to the U.S./Canadian border, from 1 mile inland along the coast and extending seaward 200 miles to the end of the U.S. Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). BOEM will use the resource document in evaluating future exploration, development, and transportation plans for offshore renewable energy projects. The report can be accessed at this link.
