The contract has been awarded as a part of the framework agreement Aibel has with Statoil on maintenance and modifications to Kristin.

“This is a major M&M contract, and a very exciting project for our Kristin organisation in Stjørdal,” says Aibel’s director for Statoil M&M, Trond Vaage.

Polarled is a 480 kilometre gas pipeline that will stretch from the Aasta Hansteen field in the Norwegian Sea and Nyhamna in Møre og Romsdal. A 30 kilometre long branch pipeline will extend from Polarled to Kristin. This will connect Polarled to the Åsgård transport and existing infrastructure. Aibel will carry out the required modifications to the platform so that it may export to both pipelines.

“Aibel has held the contract for maintenance and modifications to Kristin for the past three years. The complexity of the projects we are awarded is increasing, and in turn this contributes to further develop our organisation,” Vaage says.

Among other things, Aibel will install a new fiscal measurement station with accompanying platform for the gas to be exported to Polarled. The pigging system and the system for control and monitoring of valves on the seabed will also be modified. In addition there is the process safety for all systems linked to the gas export.

“Most of the installation work will be completed in 2015. At the most around 100 employees on land and offshore will be involved,” Vaage says. The final installation job is planned to be carried out during the shutdown in 2016. In the autumn of the same year Kristin will export gas via Polarled.
