Aker BP Chooses Name for Gas Field Off Norway

Aker BP has chosen a name for the 60 kilometer long gas field discovered west of the Skarv field.

The company named the field ‘Ærfugl’.

The decision came after a name contest organized in collaboration with the local newspaper Helgelands blad, where in total 88 different name suggestions came in, the company explained.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Energy approved the new name this week, subject to the partnership submitting the PDO.

PDO of the field, which is located in the Norwegian Sea about 210 kilometers from Sandnessjøen, is scheduled to be delivered to the Ministry in December this year.
