Alpha Gas orders LNG duo at Daewoo

Greek shipowner Alpha Gas has ordered a pair of 173,400-cbm liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers from South Korean shipbuilder Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering.

The order for both LNG tankers is worth some $370 million, according to a Daewoo statement.

The ships, which will be built at DSME’s Okpo shipyard in Geoje, are scheduled for delivery by the end of 2020.

Both of the vessels will be equipped with M-type, Electronically Controlled, Gas Injection (MEGI) engines and a reliquefaction system, the statement reads.

With this order, Alpha Gas, a Pantheon Tankers company, is strengthening its LNG fleet as it already owns one LNG carrier.

Daewoo said in the statement it expects more LNG orders to follow as the market has improved when compared to last year and ship prices were rising.

The shipbuilder has this year won orders for a total of eight LNG carriers.

To remind, Daewoo recently also scored a similar order for two LNG carriers. LNG World News understands that the owner behind this order is Greece-based Minerva Marine, which is making its first steps in the LNG shipping market.
