Annova LNG requests swift FERC project approval

Annova LNG filed a request with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission seeking prompt issuance of an order to site, build and operate an LNG export facility on the Brownsville Ship Channel in Cameron County, Texas. 

In August last year, the commission issued a notice of schedule for environmental review highlighting July 18, 2019, as the date for all federal action on Annova’s application.

Annova noted in its filing that the delay in action on pending permit applications can have significant and irreversible commercial implications for liquefied natural gas projects.

In its statement last year, FERC said that its “staff is very cognizant of the financial market impacts of its LNG project schedules… For these reasons, among others, FERC takes very seriously the schedules that it issues regarding LNG projects.”

Annova LNG added that its potential customers and investors cite dealy in commission action on the pending permit as a critical issue in the decision making process on key commercial activity.

The project proponent adds that it has answered all information requests from commission staff, and there is no outstanding information due.

The project has been reviewed and the final environmental impact statement has been issued in April this year.

The project is a proposed mid-scale facility that will include six liquefaction trains, each with a nameplate capacity of 1 million tonnes per annum, with the maximum output at optimal conditions expected to be at 6.95 mtpa.

Due to it meeting all the requirements and its economic benefits for the region as well as the global economy, Annova LNG requested the commission to expedite action on approving the project.
