Energy solutions provider, Applied LNG, has renewed a multi-year contract with Sysco Los Angeles and Sysco Riverside for the supply of renewable liquefied natural gas (RLNG).

The RLNG supplied by Applied LNG has low carbon intensity and is considered the cleanest alternative transportation fuel commercially available in the U.S., Applied LNG said in its statement on Thursday.

The race towards carbon free fuel has been championed by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) “renewable fuel standard”’ which have both encouraged an increase in the volume of renewable fuels used in transportation.

The credits generated from the use of renewable fuels have driven down the fuel costs, making renewable energy sources often a cheaper alternative to fossil and higher carbon-based fuels, Applied LNG said.

Applied LNG provides natural gas solutions to trucking, oilfield, marine, mining, construction, rail, industrial, and agricultural customers.

It owns and operates three LNG liquefaction trains, two at the Needle Mountain LNG plant located near Topock, Arizona, and one at the Midlothian LNG plant in Texas.
