Aquamarine Subsea Solutions gets ‘Ocean Valiant’ upgrade deal

Aquamarine Subsea Solutions has been awarded a contract to upgrade Diamond Offshore’s Ocean Valiant semi-submersible drilling rig currently operating in the North Sea.

Aquamarine said that the company would upgrade the 18 3/4” subsea stack.

The company will also supply engineering design, fabrication, assembly, and a test to upgrade the stack to accommodate five cavities, including the choke and kill flex loop and capture spool.

According to Aquamarine, the work will be carried out at the company’s Houston facility.

Regarding the rig, Ocean Valiant is contracted to Maersk and has been under contract since November 2016. The semi-submersible will work for the Danish company until February 2018. The contract for the rig was signed for the drilling of 13 wells plus a priced option.

The Ocean Valiant was built in 1988 which can operate in water depths 6,000 ft and drill up to 30,000 ft. The rig was designed by Ocean Odyssey and can accommodate 124 people.
