Argentina’s LNG imports hit four-year lows

Argentinian LNG imports for December 2014 and January 2015 hit lowest monthly volumes since 2010.

According to Platts unit, Bentek Energy, Argentina imported 244,880 cbm of LNG in December while, in January, the country imported 228,706 cbm.

Imports dropped 55.7% and 59.4% respectively, compared to the same period in 2013.

According to sources, gas sendout rates from Argentina’s two LNG import terminals at Escobar and Bahia Blanca were at zero as there is no gas demand during the summer and mild period kept the electricity demand and power generation at low levels.

Sources further reveal that weakening economy has reduced the demand for natural gas in the industrial sector.
