Update: Armed Forces Work on Object Removal near Nord Stream

Swedish Armed Forces will work on identifying and disposing of a ‘piece of munitions’ that was found during routine survey operations near Nord Stream pipeline in Baltic Sea.

The object has been located in the Swedish Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) approximately 120 km away from the island of Gotland.

Since early Wednesday morning the Armed Forces units are on location working on identifying the object.

The windy weather and big waves are impacting the operation.

The Armed Forces could not forecast how long the operation would last and when the work will be completed.

Nord Stream has stopped gas transportation through Line 2 for safety reasons and the authorities have established a three nautical miles safety zone to minimize any risks, until the object is removed.

The Armed Forces said that they are conducting the operation in consultation with Nord Stream.
