Asia Pacific boasts highest number of offshore rigs in July

Baker Hughes Incorporated announced today that the international rig count for July 2014 was 1,382, up 38 from the 1,344 counted in June 2014, and up 77 from the 1,305 counted in July 2013.

The international offshore rig count for July 2014 was 336, up 16 from the 320 counted in June 2014, and up 16 from the 320 counted in July 2013. Worldwide offshore rig count, including the U.S. and Canada, was 395, up from 380 in June, and 381 in July last year.

Asia Pacific hosted the biggest number of active offshore rigs in July (113), followed by Latin America (68), US (57), Europe (55), Middle East (54), Africa (46) and Canada (2).

The average U.S. rig count for July 2014 was 1,876, up 15 from the 1,861 counted in June 2014, and up 110 from the 1,766 counted in July 2013.

The average Canadian rig count for July 2014 was 350, up 110 from the 240 counted in June 2014, and up 59 from the 291 counted in July 2013.

The worldwide rig count for July 2014 was 3,608, up 163 from the 3,445 counted in June 2014, and up 246 from the 3,362 counted in July 2013.

The Baker Hughes Rotary Rig Counts are counts of the number of drilling rigs actively exploring for or developing oil or natural gas in the United States, Canada and international markets.  Baker Hughes has issued the rotary rig counts as a service to the petroleum industry since 1944, when Hughes Tool Company began weekly counts of US and Canadian drilling activity.  Baker Hughes initiated the monthly international rig count in 1975.
