Asia Vision docks at Petrobras’ LNG terminal to discharge first Sabine Pass export cargo

The 160,000 cbm LNG carrier Asia Vision docked on Tuesday at Petrobras-operated Guanabara Bay LNG terminal in Brazil to discharge the first export cargo from Cheniere’s Sabine Pass facility in the U.S.

Cheniere shipped the long-awaited first cargo from its Sabine Pass liquefaction and export facility in Louisiana on February 24. The Sabine Pass facility is the first of its kind to export cheap and abundant U.S. shale gas to overseas markets.

Shipping data reveals that Chevron’s Asia Vision was waiting for several days off the coast of Rio De Janeiro before setting sail on Tuesday towards the Guanabara Bay LNG terminal.

According to Brazil’s Petrobras, the LNG tanker will discharge the equivalent of about 96 million m³ of natural gas.

The company initially said that the cargo is set to be discharged at the Bahia regasification terminal in All Saints’ Bay, Salvador, in the state of Bahia.

More Sabine Pass LNG exports

Houston-based Cheniere is to export its second cargo of liquefied natural gas as the second vessel arrived at the Sabine Pass export facility in Louisiana.

The second LNG cargo will be loaded and shipped onboard the 162,000 cbm LNG carrier Clean Ocean.

Sabine Pass is expected to load several commissioning cargos as part of its start-up process, after which it will need the approval from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to operate commercially, according to U.S. EIA.
