AusGroup nets Ichthys LNG job

AusGroup’s unit, MAS Australia has been contracted by Clough Projects International to supply rope access trade services on the Inpex-operated Ichthys LNG project. 

The contract supports the hook-up and pre-commissioning phase of the project’s central processing facility (CPF) and the floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) facilities, the company’s statement reads.

MAS will be responsible for the delivery of rope access trade activities required for the hook-up and pre-commissioning scope of work, supporting onshore and offshore pre-investment activities in Western Australia and Korea.

The CPF, the Ichthys Explorer, weighing 120,000 tons and with topsides measuring 130 meters by 120 meters, reached her final destination, 220 kilometers off the north coast of Western Australia, where she will be located for 40 years in late May.

The CPF is the central hub for initial offshore processing of all the well fluids delivered from a 130-kilometre network of subsea well infrastructure.

Gas from the CPF will be sent through an 890-kilometre subsea pipeline to the onshore LNG facility, at Bladin Point, near Darwin for processing.

Most condensate and water from the CPF will be transferred to a nearby floating production, storage and offloading facility (FPSO), the Ichthys Venturer.

First LNG from the project that is expected to produce 8.9 million tons of LNG and 1.6 million tons of LPG each year, along with more than 100,000 barrels of condensate per day at peak, is expected by March 31 next year.

The project is a joint venture between Inpex, major partner Total, Taiwan’s CPC Corporation and the Australian subsidiaries of Tokyo Gas, Osaka Gas, Kansai Electric, Chubu Electric Power and Toho Gas.
