Australia: APLNG Launches CSG Campaign

Australia Pacific LNG has launched its first coal seam gas (CSG) information campaign in an effort to provide the public with accurate facts about the Australia Pacific LNG project, and to counter misinformation in the current public debate about CSG.

Australia Pacific LNG print advertisements launched on 2 January, and will initially appear in newspapers in Brisbane, Toowoomba, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast.

The central premise of the advertisements is to share the knowledge gained through Origin’s 15 years and ConocoPhillips’ 25 years of experience in producing CSG, and the expertise of the project workforce of more than 300 geoscientists, engineers, hydrogeologists and environmental specialists.

In tandem, Australia Pacific LNG launched a refreshed website, which contains a wide range of easily accessible information about Australia Pacific LNG’s CSG operations and some of the hot topics associated with the industry.

This includes its contribution to cleaner energy, an explanation of the gas extraction process, and Australia Pacific LNG’s approach to working with farmers and managing water and salt.

Australia Pacific LNG Chief Executive Officer, Page Maxson, said, “CSG is a safe and reliable energy source used every day to power homes and cook meals in Queensland, and we are committed to proactively addressing misinformation about CSG and the impact of our operations on communities and the environment.

With these advertisements and refreshed website, we are providing an enhanced information resource for people looking to better understand the industry, which we hope will contribute to a more informed and balanced debate about CSG,” Mr Maxson said.

Australia Pacific LNG is a joint venture project between Origin, ConocoPhillips and Sinopec that includes development of new and existing CSG fields in the Surat and Bowen basins and construction of a gas transmission pipeline from the gas fields to an LNG facility being developed on Curtis Island near Gladstone.

Australia Pacific LNG currently provides more than 40 per cent of Queensland’s existing natural gas requirements. The project stands to create thousands of jobs in regional Queensland and deliver significant opportunities for many of the local communities in which it operates as well as broader economic benefits.
