Australia: Chevron Congratulates Dr Harry Butler for Achievement Award

Chevron Australia Pty Ltd congratulated eminent conservationist Dr Harry Butler (image) for receiving the prestigious 2011 Lewis G. Weeks award from the Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association (APPEA) at a ceremony in Perth.

The Lewis G. Weeks award commemorates outstanding contributions to the development of the Australian petroleum industry in honour of Dr Lewis G. Weeks, who undertook pioneering geological work in the Bass Strait.

Dr Butler was selected based on the positive impact his environmental work has had in enabling oil and gas exploration and development, in particular with respect to Chevron’s operations on Barrow Island.

Chevron Australia Managing Director Roy Krzywosinski was present to congratulate Dr Butler when he received the award.

Harry is a uniquely qualified and passionate individual who is dedicated to the protection of the environment, particularly on Barrow Island. Chevron has worked closely with Harry over the decades to demonstrate that with proper management, conservation and oil and gas development can co-exist,” Mr Krzywosinski said.

Chevron is one of the world’s leading integrated energy companies and through its Australian subsidiary, has been present in Australia for almost 60 years. With the ingenuity and commitment of more than 2,000 people, Chevron Australia operates Australia’s largest onshore oil field on Barrow Island and the Thevenard Island oil fields; and leads the development of the Gorgon and Wheatstone liquefied natural gas (LNG) and domestic gas projects. The company is a foundation participant in the North West Shelf Venture and the Browse LNG development; and is a significant investor in exploration offshore north-west Australia, one of Chevron’s four global focus areas for exploration.
