Australia: Law Firm Advises Inpex on Ichthys Project

Law Firm Advises Inpex on Ichthys Project

Allens, law firm working throughout Australia and Asia, has advised international oil and gas exploration and production company INPEX Corporation on the sale of part of its interest in the up- and downstream arms of the Ichthys Project and associated exploration interests, to Osaka Gas, Toho Gas and Tokyo Gas. The sell-downs were completed on 26 June.

The Ichthys Project is the largest oil and gas development in the Northern Territory and will deliver significant social and economic benefits to the Territory and Australia.

According to energy and resources Partner Igor Bogdanich, who led the Allens team on the transaction, INPEX’s Australian operations, together with its major projects elsewhere in Asia, now form a substantial part of its business.

‘Allens is focused on high-end energy work and LNG projects for major clients,‘ Mr Bogdanich said.

‘Supporting INPEX on the exciting Ichthys project, and the recent equity sell downs, was a pleasure for our team.’

Partner Tim Lester, who leads the firm’s Japan practice and INPEX relationship, said Allens lawyers have strong relationships with their INPEX colleagues.

‘We look forward to working with INPEX to support them in the future,’ Mr Lester said.
