Azerbaijan: Families of missing oil workers get $12.800

Azerbaijan’s government and the country’s oil and gas company Socar will give material aid to the families of the oil workers affected by the offshore accidents that occurred on Friday, December 4, 2015.

The Government has donated 15.000 AZN ($9613) to the families. Separately, Socar has earmarked 5000 AZN ($3204) to give to the families of the victims.

To remind, on December 4, three workers went missing at the Oil Rocks Field in the Caspian Sea, as a part of the platform with the living quarters collapsed into the sea, after the platform had been hit by strong waves due to a stormy weather.

In a separate incident later on Friday, a fire broke out on Socar’s Gunashli platform, after the storm damaged a natural gas riser.

Sixty three persons were aboard the Gunashli 10 at the time of the incident. Thirty three workers were rescued.

Eight people have been confirmed dead so far, and their bodies have been recovered. The latest body was found floating in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan’s ministry of emergency situations informed on Sunday.

According to available information, 22 workers from Gunashli – which is still burning – and three workers from the Oil Rocks Field remain unacounted for.
