Babcock’s Australasian headquarters to open in Adelaide

British engineering and support services company Babcock International Group will establish its Australasian headquarters in Adelaide with the relocation of its Mission Critical Services and Offshore Services businesses to South Australia.

Babcock said last week that the opening of its Adelaide office comes as a part of the company’s ‘aggressive’ regional growth strategy.

Furthermore, Babcock’s aviation businesses, Babcock Mission Critical Services Australasia and Babcock Offshore Services Australasia, will formally become part of an existing Adelaide based management team at a new site in the Adelaide Central Business District.

Babcock Offshore Services provides helicopter transportation services to oil and gas companies, to support their production, drilling and exploration campaigns within the Australasian region. It’s Australian customers include PTTEP, Chevron, Woodside, ConocoPhillips, Eni, INPEX and CGG.

Babcock’s other relocated business, Mission Critical Services, provides helicopter support for a range of services including Emergency Medical (EMS), Search and Rescue (SAR), surveillance operations, law enforcement, aerial work and Marine Pilot Transfer (MPT).

Chief Executive Officer of Babcock Australasia, Craig Lockhart, said: “South Australia was the logical choice for our new Australasian headquarters, and the Babcock Mission Critical Services base because it expands our existing presence here and centralizes our helicopter operations in Australia.”

Lockhart said building a strategic base in Adelaide would open the way for significant employment opportunities since there is a great pool of talent in South Australia, particularly in engineering.

The new Australasian headquarters will be opened with the help of the Government of South Australia with a $2.5 million grant from its Economic Investment Fund and Investment Attraction South Australia on the understanding that Babcock will reinvest the funds into the State through the purchase of local goods and services.
