Bad weather shuts Maersk Oil’s North Sea platforms

Production from Maersk Oil’s platforms at the Tyra gas field in the Danish sector of the North Sea has been closed.

In a message to Offshore Energy Today on Tuesday, the Danish company’s spokesperson said Maersk Oil initiated shutdown procedure at the company’s two offshore platforms due to bad weather.

The spokesperson said: “Due to harsh weather, production on Tyra East and Tyra West has been temporarily shut down.”

When asked if the company was planning to evacuate the platforms, the spokesperson said: “No evacuation is planned. We are constantly monitoring the weather forecast, and we will act accordingly.”

The Tyra East and West are actually platform complexes located at the the Tyra field. The field was discovered in 1968 and production started in 1984. The Tyra platforms form the export centre for all gas produced in Danish Underground Consortium.
