Bangladesh: Government Seeks MoU Extension for Qatari LNG Import

The government of Bangladesh has sought extension of time of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Qatar by two more years to import LNG, The Financial Express reported, citing the Additional Secretary of the Energy Division under the MoPEMR Mohammed Abu Taher as saying.

We have proposed to Qatar through the ministry of foreign affairs for extending the time of the MoU by two more years to import LNG,” he said.

Bangladesh signed a deal with Qatar in January of 2011  to import 4 million tons of LNG per year from the world’s biggest LNG exporter.

The MoU expired in March 2013 as necessary infrastructure or facility for LNG imports is yet to be built.
