BC bills on LNG to clear air for investment decisions

BC government’s announced bills in late October could have a significant impact on planned investments in LNG facilities.

Platts cites Jamie Edwardson, a Finance Ministry spokesman, who said one bill will be an LNG tax on producers with the second determining the maximum level of greenhouse gas emissions from liquefaction facilities.

Bills that will be introduced in the week starting October 20 will be debated by the provincial government and expectedly passed before the legislative session ends in late November, according to Edwardson.

Details on greenhouse gas emissions remained undisclosed while the LNG tax rate has been a hot topic for major producers such as Petronas of Malaysia, who are seeking clarification of the matter before making the FID for it’s planned LNG facility.
