Beatrice Puts Pedal to the Metal

The Beatrice offshore wind farm has produced 587.9MW of capacity, which represents the highest output from renewable sources in Scotland to date.

According to Beatrice Offshore Windfarm Ltd (BOWL), the 588MW project reached the double milestone this week.

To remind, the last of 84 Siemens Gamesa 7MW turbines at the Beatrice wind farm was commissioned in the middle of May, marking the end of offshore construction.

Beatrice delivered first power in July last year, shortly after Swire Blue Ocean’s jack-up vessel Pacific Orca installed the first turbine at the project site.

As the majority shareholder, SSE Renewables led the construction process and will manage O&M from a new base in Wick, having invested over GBP 20 million to redevelop the harbor front and renovate two buildings that are home to up to 90 long-term staff members.
