Becker Marine receives funds for LNG power solution

Hamburg-based Becker Marine Systems recently revealed it has received financial backing from the German Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure for its LNG power supply solution.

According to Becker Marine’s statement, it has received a grant for funding in the 7-figure range of an overall concept for the alternative supply of energy to ships at ports.

The solution, named LNG PowerPac, is a specialized container which will be deployed aboard containerships to provide energy to the onboard power supply during the vessel‘s layover at port.

The grant has been provided within the framework of the Mobility and Fuel Strategy of the German Federal Government, with the use of liquefied natural gas being fostered as an alternative fuel for maritime applications.

LNG PowerPac is equipped with a 20-foot LNG tank with the ability to provide up to 30 hours of power to ships laying over at the port of Hamburg.
