BigRoll launches first of four marine transport vessels

BigRoll Shipping, a heavy marine transportation provider based in the Netherlands, has informed that its vessel, the BigRoll Barentsz, has been launched in China.

The BigRoll Barentsz is the first of four BigRoll Shipping’s MC Class vessels under construction. It was launched on October 27, 2015 at Cosco Dalian Shipyard.

The Finnish Swedish 1A Ice Class vessel is specifically designed for the marine transportation of major modules and equipment for large energy projects both onshore and offshore to remote areas, and it has the ability to operate in temperatures as low as minus 39 degrees centigrade.

According to the company, the vessel construction and commissioning remains on schedule for delivery in March 2016. The second BigRoll vessel, the BigRoll Bering, is expected to be launched in December, with an expected delivery date of May 2016.

The remaining two vessels, BigRoll Baffin and BigRoll Beaufort, will follow with delivery anticipated to be in the second half of 2016 and early 2017.

The company also said that, directly after delivery from the yard, the first two vessels would enter into a multi-year contract with Yamgaz, the consortium of Technip, JGC Corporation and Chiyoda, for module transportation as part of the Yamal LNG project.
