Bigroll orders a third?

COSCO (Dalian) Shipyard Co., has announced its “European client” has exercised an option to build a 21.000 DWT Module Carrier.

While the Chinese company did not reveal the name of the client, it provided a hint that it could be Bigroll Shipping, saying that the customer is exercising its option for a Module Carrier construction, as per the agreement signed in September last year.  The vessel is scheduled for delivery in 2Q2016

To remind, a Dutch heavy marine company Bigroll Shipping last year in September ordered two vessels of the same type with options two order two more.

Bigroll Shipping however, did not immediately respond to the e-mail seeking confirmation.

The Dutch provider of long-distance marine transportation solutions on June 9 announced that first steel for its BigRoll Barentsz vessel was cut at COSCO Dalian Shipyard Co.

The BigRoll Barentsz is the first of two MC Class Module Carriers ordered last year for the transportation of ultra large and heavy modular cargoes. The vessel is scheduled for delivery mid August 2015. Its sister vessel BigRoll Bering will follow in October 2015.

Vessel specs

The vessel’s overall length will 173 m with a beam of 42 m, giving the vessels a deck space of 42 by 125 m. According to Bigroll, the deck is completely free of manholes, air heads etc. The depth is 12 m and the maximum deadweight of the MC Class vessels is 21,000 mt. The vessels will be suited to travel to remote areas such as the Arctic, as well as for direct offshore supply.
