Turkish Tersan Shipyard has handed over the LNG-powered fish feed transportation vessel MS Nyksund to BioMar.

In its efforts to modernize the fleet for the transport of fish feed, BioMar signed an agreement with NSK Shipping for the construction of the new vessel.

BioMar expects to have the vessel in operation in two weeks when its arrival is scheduled at the company’s facility in Karmoy.

Speaking following the handover, BioMar’s Tore Gunnar Wikdal said the vessel was supposed to be delivered before the high season, however, it was delayed by the shipyard.

He added that the technology on the Nyksund is similar to that of the previously delivered Hoydal, the first LNG-fueled vessel of its kind. The Nyksund has a loading capacity of 2,7000 tons of fish feed and includes Rolls-Royce LNG-fueled propulsion system.

The vessel is owned and operated by NSK Shipping, and designed in cooperation with NSK Ship Design.
