BlueTEC platform doubles its capacity

Upgrade works on the BlueTEC floating tidal platform have been completed.

Tocardo’s T1 tidal turbine with the capacity of 100 kW has been replaced with the larger T2 turbine from the same manufacturer, doubling the platform’s generating capacity.

According to Bluewater’s social media, the platform has been returned to the water yesterday, November 26.

Tocardo’s T2 tidal turbine has the rated capacity 200 kW. It is 5.85 m long, with the diameter of 1.34 m, weighing 13.5 tonnes.

Another T2 turbine is planned for the installation in the coming months, and with the two turbines working simultaneously, BlueTEC platform will again double its capacity to the total of 400-500 kW.

The platform has been deployed at Wadden Sea, off Texel island, the Netherlands.

BlueTec Texel project represents collaboration between Bluewater, Damen/ Niron Staal, Van Oord/Acta Marine, Tocardo, TKF, Vryhof, NIOZ, Nylacast, Schottel Hydro and Tidal Test Centre.
