BOEM Wants to Talk Kitty Hawk

The U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) will hold a seminar and a public meeting in North Carolina to discuss the recently announced Proposed Sale Notice (PSN) and Request for Interest (RFI) for 122,405-acre Kitty Hawk Wind Energy Area (WEA).

The PSN and RFI requests that any prospective bidders already qualified for commercial wind energy development offshore North Carolina affirm their continued interest; any prospective bidders that have not been qualified by BOEM submit the required qualification materials; and public comments on BOEM’s proposal to auction a lease area offshore North Carolina for potential commercial wind energy development.

The comment period closes on 17 October, 2016. Comments received or postmarked by then will be made available to the public and considered before the publication of the Final Sale Notice, which will announce the time and date of the lease sale.

On 20 September 20, 2016, BOEM will host a public auction seminar in Raleigh, North Carolina, to describe the auction format, explain the auction rules, and demonstrate the auction process through meaningful examples at the following location. The seminar will be held at Julia Jones Daniel Center for Community Leadership,
11 Hillsborough Street, from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. local time.

On 21 September 21, BOEM will hold a public information meeting in Nags Head to provide an overview of recent leasing and planning efforts for North Carolina, an introduction of the PSN and RFI, as well as an overview of BOEM’s environmental review process. The meeting will take place at Jennette’s Pier, from 5 to 8 p.m., local time.
