Borssele III & IV to Feature MHI Vestas 9.5MW Turbines, Sif Monopiles

Sif has won a contract by Van Oord for the production of 77 monopiles for the Borssele III & IV offshore wind project in the Netherlands.

According to Sif, the contract is subject to financial close, with the production of monopiles scheduled from early July until December 2018.

The project was already presented in Sif’s order book as exclusive negotiations and will now be presented as a firm contract, bringing the total order book for 2018 at 183Kton, the company said.

Located some 22km offshore Zeeland, the Borssele III & IV wind farm will have a capacity of up to 740MW and will comprise MHI Vestas V164-9.5 MW turbines built on monopile foundations without transition pieces, Sif said.

The offshore wind project is being developed by the Blauwwind II consortium which includes Shell, Eneco, Van Oord, and Diamond Generating Europe, a wholly owned subsidiary of Mitsubishi Corporation.
