Brazil: Ocean Rig and OSX Offer New Drillship Proposal to Petrobras

Ocean Rig has teamed up with Brazilian shipbuilder OSX on drafting a proposal for construction of five drillships for Petrobras. The proposal will be revealed on Thursday, Reuters cited Petrobras’ head of engineering, technology and materials José Figueiredo as saying.

Having in mind the lack of success of Ocean Rig to find shipyards to execute the Petrobras awarded contract in the previous auction round, OSX’s involvement in the deal could prevent delays in harnessing the potential of giant oil reserves being discovered in the Santos and Campos offshore basins off the Brazilian coast.

Other details with respect to the pending proposal, such as the contract value haven’t been disclosed yet.
