OGX Maranhão Wins Environmental License to Produce Gas from Parnaíba Basin

OGX Petróleo e Gás Participações S.A., the Brazilian oil and gas company responsible for the largest private-sector exploratory campaign in Brazil, announced that OGX Maranhão has been granted by the Environmental and Natural Resources Secretary of the State of Maranhão the Preliminary License for the production of natural gas in the Gavião Real and Gavião Azul fields in the Parnaíba Basin.

With the detailed project and construction contract signed, OGX Maranhão continues the execution of the Natural Gas Processing Unit (UPGN) implementation. The UPGN will be responsible for removing the liquids, as well as filtering and heating the produced gas.

The Preliminary License certifies the meeting of environmental requirements by the venture, which will supply natural gas to the MPX Parnaíba Thermoelectric Complex. The total contracted capacity of the complex has already reached 1.5 GW and reinforces the synergies between OGX and MPX.
