Brazil: Petrobras Hires Bumi Armada’s AHTS

The largest owner and operator of offshore support vessels in Malaysia, Bumi Armada has secured a four year charter and operations contract by Brazilian oil and gas major, Petrobras for its Anchor Handling Towing Support (AHTS) vessel Armada Tuah 102.

The 72.5 m long AHTS vessel with DP2 capability and 150 tonnes bollard pull, will be supporting research activities as well as hydrocarbon and mining activities developed by PETROBRAS in the Brazilian continental shelf.

The 4 year contract comes with an extension of a further four years, and the total award is estimated to be valued at more than RM 150 million. The contract is expected to be effective by the first quarter of 2012, when PETROBRAS is anticipated to formally accept delivery of the vessel.

Commenting on the award, Bumi Armada’s Executive Director and CEO, Mr Hassan Basma said, “PETROBRAS is the third largest energy company in the world and they have exacting standards. We are pleased to have met and qualified for their projects and this contract underpins our strategic entry into Brazil. Our other vessel, Armada Tuah 104 has been working offshore in Brazil since mid 2011.”
