Breaking: First US Offshore Wind Turbine Stands Tall

Deepwater Wind’s CEO Jeffrey Grybowski has shared images of the the jack-up installation vessel Brave Tern as it attaches the final blade and completes the installation of the first offshore wind turbine in US waters, and the first of five wind turbines to be installed on the 30MW Block Island wind farm. 

Brave Tern, accompanied by lift boats L/B Caitlin and and L/B Paul, installed the GE Haliade turbine’s nacelle and the first blade on 3 August.

The remaining two blades were installed at 8:30 AM local time, 4 August.

The other four Haliade 150-6MW turbines are expected to be installed by early September.

The wind farm, located some three miles of Block Island, Rhode Island, is planned for full commissioning by the end of the year.
