DSME announced the contract on December 5, saying the deal was secured with an American client.

BW LNG said the contract brings the company’s newbuilding program to eight ships, with two vessels already delivered in 2018 and the rest to follow in 2019-2021.

The 174,000 cbm LNG carriers are scheduled for delivery in the first half of 2021 and will feature MEGI-propulsion and reliquefaction system.

According to DSME, the shipbuilding contract is worth USD 370.1 million and includes options for four more units, which, if exercised, would bring the value of the agreement to around USD 1.1 billion. The company informed that the deal on the options would be finalized in 2019.

Days after the contract was announced, DSME has won another deal to build an LNG carrier for the Greek shipowner Maran Gas Maritime. The unit, which will feature 173,400 cbm, would be handed over to its owner by the first half of 2021.
