Cairns Coasts and Ports Conference Set for June 21

The Coasts & Ports Conference will take place from June 21-23, 2017, at the Cairns Convention Center in Cairns, Queensland, Australia

The event will bring together engineers, planners, scientists and researchers to Cairns, to focus on the technological, scientific, policy, planning and design issues related to the region’s diverse and developing coasts.

The main aim of the conference is to integrate ideas and knowledge among engineers, port and maritime operators, researchers and scientists, local/central government, maritime manufacturers, planners and policy makers and media.

“Our Conference theme ‘Working with Nature’ reflects the increasing recognition of the need to design and operate projects from a perspective that places the natural environment at the forefront of the project, to benefit the community and nature,” said the organizers.

Coasts & Ports 2017 will continue to publicize the persisting importance of coastal engineering problems, incorporating numerous concurrent streams for technical presentations, half-day field trips and the opportunity to network with colleagues in a vibrant social program, according to the conference organizing committee.

This event will cover the following topics:

  • An overview of coastal engineering fundamentals;
  • Beach morphology and coastal hazards;
  • Current practice for coastal structures;
  • New technologies and state of the art professional practice;
  • Physical and numerical modelling; and
  • Practical case studies.
