CGX Energy takes on operations manager for Corentyne project (Guyana)

Canadian oil and gas exploration company CGX Energy has appointed a project operations manager for an exploration well on the Corentyne block offshore Guyana.

CGX said that drilling engineer Michael P. Stockinger was appointed to the position of project operations manager on the Corentyne block exploration well.

Executive chairman of CGX, Suresh Narine, said: “We are delighted that Mike Stockinger has rejoined the company as our drilling engineer. Mike brings 40 years of experience in the oil and gas business specializing in drilling, completions, and production engineering and operations.

“He is also no stranger to CGX and the Guyana Basin, having designed and drilled the company’s 100% interest Eagle Shallow well on its Corentyne Block and participated integrally in the design and drilling of the company’s 25 percent interest Jaguar well on the former Georgetown block.”

Stockinger has significant experience in onshore and offshore drilling and completions operations, including direct involvement in spars, TLP’s, FPSO’s, subsea wells, and drilling deep subsalt wells.

He started his career with Texaco in Morgan City as a drilling engineer. He then joined Conoco and worked for 18 years in various positions in drilling and completions both onshore and offshore U.S. and international, including as a drilling manager for the Gulf of Mexico.

Subsequently, he joined Kerr-McGee and worked for 12 years in various positions including GOM regional E&P manager and vice president for Worldwide Drilling and Completions.

During this period Stockinger was involved in numerous deepwater exploration wells and was responsible for drilling and completions on six SPAR platforms. In 2006, after Kerr-McGee was acquired by Anadarko, he became a consultant and worked as a project drilling manager for Remora in Columbia, for Murphy in Australia and Suriname, and for CGX Energy in Guyana.

Corentyne

CGX’s fully-owned and operated Corentyne license applies to 1.5 million acres (6,212 square kilometers) offshore Guyana.

In 2012, CGX completed a 1,160 sq km 3D seismic program to better image the up-dip limits of the Eagle Deep stratigraphic play at the Turonian and Campanian and obtained data on two Albian prospects, Crabwood and Kabukalli.

A year later, DeGolyer and MacNaughton provided a total best estimate (P50) prospective resources for six oil and gas prospects on the license of 779 million barrels of oil, 743 million barrels of condensate, 6,943 billion cubic feet of sales gas plus 696 billion cubic feet of solution gas.
