Champion Technologies Supports Eni's Goliat Development (Norway)

Champion Technologies has been awarded a contract by Eni Norge for the provision of production chemicals and associated technical services for the Goliat development in the Barents Sea in Northern Norway.

The contract, worth over £3million {$5.5million} per year, has been agreed up until the end of 2016 with the option to extend by a further two years.

The Goliat field is the first oil discovery to be developed in the Barents Sea. Eni Norge is planning to bring the field on stream in 2014, producing to a FPSO with an anticipated field life of more than 15 years.

Champion has been providing solutions for the wide variety of production chemistry challenges faced by operators in the Norwegian market for more than 15 years. Champion’s experience, capability and innovative products will be utilised to ensure Eni’s production chemistry management throughout the life of the development.

Torstein Håland, Champion Technologies’ Scandinavia business manager, said: “Being selected to support Eni’s Goliat development is an excellent opportunity to partner with a major operator on a ground breaking new development.

“The business with Eni Norge is strategically very important for Champion; not only will we be working on the first offshore operated oil field in the Barents Sea, but this will allow us to develop and position Champion for the future expansion of the oil and gas sector in this region.

“This is a rapidly growing area for exploration and development activity. Working here from the beginning will bring future growth opportunities, as well as strengthening our capabilities and experience.”

An excellent supply chain and logistics operation will be fundamental. Champion will work closely with local businesses to enhance capabilities, support the contract and provide a cost-effective approach for Eni Norge while demonstrating a strong commitment to business sustainability in the surrounding region.

Mr Håland continued: “The challenges of this work for Champion Technologies are not only technical in nature but also involve working in a harsh environment, with winter conditions requiring additional protection and safeguards for people, products and procedures.

“Consideration will also need to be given to the extremely long supply route to Hammerfest. We will be working closely with businesses in the area, to draw upon local assets and expertise and ensure shorter transportation periods and continuity of operational support.”
