Cheniere takes over control of Sabine Pass LNG Train 1 from Bechtel

Cheniere Energy and Bechtel have on Tuesday informed that substantial completion at Sabine Pass Train 1 has been achieved on May 27. 

According to the joint statement, commissioning has been completed and Bechtel has handed over the care, custody and control of Train 1 to U.S. LNG export player Cheniere.

The date of first commercial delivery for Train 1 is expected to occur in November, the joint statement reads, when the 20-year LNG sales and purchase agreement with BG, now part of Shell, commences.

Prior to the date of first commercial delivery Shell has certain rights to early cargoes produced from the first liquefaction train at the Sabine Pass terminal, which goes in hand with Shell’s recent confirmation that on 16 May 2016, the first cargo under the long-term SPA has been loaded at the facility.

Cheniere is developing and constructing up to six liquefaction trains at the Sabine Pass liquefaction project. Train 1 is complete and has achieved substantial completion, Train 2 is undergoing commissioning and is expected to begin producing LNG in due course, Trains 3 through 5 are under construction and Train 6 is fully permitted.

Each liquefaction train is expected to have a nominal production capacity of approximately 4.5 million tons per annum of LNG and current sales and purchase agreements are totaling approximately 19.75 mtpa of LNG.
