Cheoy Lee Delivers 36m Crewboat ‘Swissco Cheetah’

The first of a pair of 36m crewboats, built by Cheoy Lee Shipyards of Hong Kong, named Swissco Cheetah was delivered recently by the shipyard’s Zhuhai yard to Singapore-based operator, Swissco Offshore.

Capable of carrying 50 tonnes of deck cargo, the 70-passenger vessel, represents the first of this type of vessel built by Cheoy Lee, Swissco Cheetah and is the latest in a long line of collaborative efforts between builder and designer, including a large number of successful aluminium and composite passenger vessels.

Swissco Cheetah features a 94 square meters of aft cargo deck, capable of carrying 50 tons. The main deck passenger compartment features 70 seats, beverage counter, luggage racks and a pair of heads. Forward doors allow direct access to the foredeck for bow transfer of personnel.

Below decks, Swissco Cheetah accommodates ten crew in six cabins. Crew bathroom, laundry, galley and mess are situated aft of these.

Swissco Cheetah is powered by three Cummins KTA38M2 main engines, each producing 1350bhp at 1900rpm. These drive through Twin Disc MGX6690SC gearboxes to fixed-pitch propellers. The hull shape was refined through CFD analysis, with validation by the large number of Incat Crowther vessels already operating in the field. Swissco Cheetah performed well in sea trials, comfortably exceeding the contracted service speed of 23 knots. She is capable of service speed of 24 knots and a top speed of over 27 knots.

Swissco Cheetah is a demonstration of the depth of capability of Cheoy Lee, and the continued strong relationship between the designer and shipyard. Swissco Cheetah’s sister ship is nearing completion and is due to for delivery later in the year.
