Chevron fires up first Gorgon LNG gas power generator

Chevron-operated Gorgon LNG project has achieved an important milestone with the successful start-up of the first gas turbine generator, a key element of the Gorgon project’s plant start-up sequence.

The first of the five GTGs was started using domestic gas from the Dampier to Bunbury natural gas pipeline as commissioning fuel gas. The milestone was a critical turning point, bringing the project closer to the delivery of the first LNG cargo, Chevron said in a statement.

On site at Barrow Island, teams have been preparing for the start-up of the GTG by conducting safety muster drills and erecting signage around key areas.

Once the Gorgon project is operational, the five GTGs will have the capacity to provide 584 megawatts of electricity, nearly double the capacity of the Collie Power Station.
